2024 FMA Annual Meeting 

16 - 19 October 2024 | Grapevine, TX


FMA International is pleased to announce the 2024 FMA Annual Meeting will be held on 16 - 19 October 2024 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, TX (nearest airport is DFW). This conference will bring together academics and practitioners with interests in financial decision-making and provides a forum for presenting new research and discussing current issues in financial management and related topics. 


Vice President - 2024 FMA Annual Meeting Program 

Jeffrey Pontiff, Professor and James F. Cleary Chair in Finance, Boston College

Professor Pontiff has teaching and research interests in the area of corporate finance and capital markets. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of FinanceJournal of Financial EconomicsAmerican Economic ReviewQuarterly Journal of EconomicsReview of Financial Studies, and the Rand Journal. His papers have won numerous awards including both the Jensen Prize (first place) and the Amundi Smith Breeden Prize (first place). He has held research or teaching positions at University of Washington, UCLA, Emory, Harvard Business School, National University of Singapore, ESCP-Europe, EPFL, Northeastern, and the Institute for Financial Research (Stockholm).

He is an associate editor at the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Wine Economics. In the past, he has served as the executive editor at the Review of Asset Pricing Studies, and an associate editor at the Review of Financial Studies and Management Science. He is a co-founder and past president of the Financial Research Association, and a past director for the Western Finance Association.

Onsite registrations can be done at the Longhorn Hall E Registration desk.

Thursday and Friday: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm

Saturday: 8:00 am - 11:30 am

Registration fees are:

  • Professionals: FMA member: $275 | Non-member: $375
  • Current PhD/DBA Students: FMA member: $145 | Non-member: $185

All non-member fees include a one-year membership. Membership fees are non-refundable.

Featuring Keynote Speaker John Campbell, Harvard Universit

John Y. Campbell is the Morton L. and Carole S. Olshan Professor of Economics at Harvard University, where he has taught since 1994.

He has published over 100 articles on various aspects of finance and macroeconomics, including fixed-income securities, equity valuation, portfolio choice, and household finance. His books include Financial Decisions and Markets: A Course in Asset Pricing (Princeton University Press 2018), The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System (with the Squam Lake Group of financial economists, PUP 2010), Strategic Asset Allocation: Portfolio Choice for Long-Term Investors (with Luis Viceira, Oxford University Press 2002), and The Econometrics of Financial Markets (with Andrew Lo and Craig MacKinlay, PUP 1997).

He is a Research Associate and former Director of the Program in Asset Pricing at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy and Honorary Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and holds honorary doctorates from BI Norwegian Business School, the University of Maastricht, the University of Paris Dauphine, and Copenhagen Business School. Campbell is also a founding partner of Arrowstreet Capital, LP, a Boston-based quantitative asset management firm.

Women's Networking Luncheon (Thursday, 17 October)  

Coordinated by Dr. Nathalie MoyenProfessor and Chair of the Finance Division at the University of Colorado Boulder's Leeds School of Business,  the luncheon provides an opportunity for women to network with each other, as well as share thoughts and solutions to the unique challenges women face in advancing in the finance profession.

Assistant Professors' Breakfast (Friday, 18 October) 

Coordinated by Dr. Eric Hughson, Don and Lorraine Freeberg Professor of Economics and Finance at Claremont McKenna College, the breakfast panelists will share the lessons learned from their own experiences to help assistant professors navigate their careers. Additionally, they will discuss topics such as time management, the publication process, mentorship, as well as how to balance research, teaching and service to the profession.

Doctoral Student Consortium on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 

Led by Dr. Zhiguo He James Irvin Miller Professor of Finance at Stanford University, the Doctoral Student Consortium includes a panel session with distinguished scholars discussing the latest advances in research and offering career advice. The afternoon breakout sessions give participants the opportunity to present job market papers or dissertation proposals and receive feedback from the faculty and panelists. Accepted participants receive complimentary conference registration.

Diversity Emerging Scholars Initiative (DESI) on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 

Led by Dr. John Graham, D. Richard Mead professor of finance at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, the Diversity Emerging Scholars Initiative (DESI) is a program that offers early career scholars (e.g., Assistant Professors or untenured professors) from underrepresented identity groups (i.e., underrepresented race/ethnicity groups, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender people, people with disabilities) opportunities to gain visibility in the profession, benefit from mentorship, receive feedback and ongoing support on their research from senior faculty, and receive advice on professional development.

Selected participants will be invited to participate in workshops at the 2024 FMA Annual Meeting on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 where they will present their papers/research ideas, engage in discussion, and receive feedback from senior researchers. Participants agree to integrate feedback gained from these workshops into their papers within 9 months and send them back to the senior faculty leaders for additional mentorship and support. Workshops are by invitation only. 

Conference registration fees will be waived for selected participants.

Innovation in Teaching Award  

The Financial Management Association International's (FMA) Innovation in Teaching Award is designed to recognize inspiring educators, enhance the quality and relevance of education in finance, disseminate successful innovative practices, and elevate teaching as a craft to the next level.  

Three finalists will be invited to present in a special session at the FMA Annual Meeting in October 2024 and prizes will be offered to the winner and two runners up.

The Program Track Chairs work closely with the Vice President - Program to make paper acceptance recommendations by using the review data provided by the members of the Program Committee and put together suggested sessions for the Program.

The deadline to submit a paper was Friday, 5 April 2024. The submission fee was $75 USD (FMA members) and $85 (non-members).   We are no longer accepting submissions. Decision notices were sent on 17 July 2024 to each paper's presenting author. Please contact FMA here if you have not received your letter.
